The Dream Marriage 2: Getting It

Last time we talked about the first step towards a dream marriage, which was to believe it’s possible and to rekindle your desire for it.

Now it’s time to take another step towards achieving that great marriage.

Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4 (NKJV)

Okay, so you have the renewed desire for a great marriage. Now it’s time to complete the rest of the equation…to delight yourself in the Lord. It’s time to do some (uh-oh, a four letter word)…work.

Some may now be tuning out, thinking that “if God wanted me to have a great marriage, then He would just make it happen.”

Well that’s not the way it works for the supernatural to happen. God has to have something “natural” to add the “super” to. And that natural part is reading and meditating on God’s word, then putting into action what He’s instructed.

If you are seeking God and acting on His ways, then the Bible promises that He will give you the desires of your heart.

Do what many people won’t do (maybe not even your spouse) and do the work God has instructed you to do. You’ll find that He’ll give you the strength to do everything He’s asked, if you go into it with the right attitude.

For a place to start, check out 1 Corinthians 13 and 1 Corinthians 7. These are great chapters of the Bible on love and marriage.

  1. Lots of women all over the web are wondering why men aren’t willing to get married, but it’s pretty simple. http://www.scragged.com/articles/who-defines-marriage.aspx explains HOW women changed the rules so that men didn’t like the new rules. So the men opted out.

  2. Thanks for the link to the article Julian.

While it’s an interesting viewpoint, I will have to disagree with the theory that women got together to come up with this concept of marriage so the man stops wandering. Having said that, I do agree that society & government has not made marriage an attractive option.

The concept of marriage was formed by God with the first man and woman (Adam & Eve) and He intends it to be a good thing for both the man and woman. When both husband and wife are living by Biblical principles, then usually the problems of most couples aren’t of dire consequence.

But then there’s the rub, how many of us are REALLY living by God’s principles?

  3. Well spoken. God has given us the Book but we need to read it, meditate on it, draw out His wisdom and then we need to do it.

  4. Thanks Lorene. Good additional comments.
