Marriage Bible Verse of the Week – Getting

Looking to get something specific out of your marriage or from your spouse?

Usually in marriage, there is something we expect or want to get in the relationship. Love, affection, compliments…those are a few of the many things we would like to receive from our husbands or wives.

The Bible tells of how to get what you want in your marriage. It’s a little strange sounding because it’s the complete opposite of what we naturally think we should do.

The Bible says in order to receive, you’ve got to…give.

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
Luke 6:38 (NIV)

If you want love, you must first give love. If you are wanting affection or compliments, you must give those things first.

Think about that today. Is there something that your husband or wife may want from you? Try giving, by first meeting their needs, and what you need will eventually be given back to you.

  1. I am a widow after 43 yrs. I am new to the dating requirements of today, is there any advice for 64 yr woman old who’s lonely. And I’m expericeing some strange things, It’s like I’ve have been in the dark ages, even from older men.

  2. Hi Carrie,

I’m sorry to hear about your husband’s passing.

It’s actually been a long while since I’ve been on the dating scene myself. I think it’s changed in the 17 years my wife and I have been together:)

My only advice is to chose where you meet men (or anyone) wisely. Maybe instead of seeking out men specifically, seek out like minded Christian friends. Groups through church are a good way to get to know many people and from there you never know what kind of connections you’ll make. From there maybe some friendships will develop with guys that you like.

Of course, this is coming from a guy who is no expert in dating:)

I hope that helps a little. Have a blessed day.

  4. Hi Ana,

That can definitely be a tough situation. I can definitely pray for the both of you and your marriage. I will also pray that your Christian witness and love will be an example to him and that he will see and be drawn to God’s love for him through Jesus Christ.

Have a blessed rest of the weekend.
